How Agar came to own the land of the Jur
Agar is a section of the Dinka tribe and is considered to be the second largest section of the Dinka after the Rek. According to legends told by many people, it is widely believed that agar people came from the east, because of this, had no land to cultivate .there was a leader or chiefs of the Agar called Buoi Kuot .Buoi Kuot was a rich man who owned ten thousand cattle and had one hundred wives .from these marriages there were fifty children, thirty boys and twenty girls.
One day Buoi called a huge assembly of his clansmen .the agenda of the meeting was where they should settle and how they would acquire land. Buoi was a kind leader who always spent sleepless nights worrying about how his people would settle, and where they would fine comfort.
Everyone was at the meeting, both men and women, young boys and girls. Buoi stood up to address the gathering but. Before he said anything, he sang a song praising their God .who was known as Mayual .this God is believed to live in tree called Rual .they also believed that Mayual would help them get land.
So everyone join in singing the song of Mayual, their God .they stood and every one faced the direction of east and pointed east with their spears and sticks .and this is how the song went :
Wa Mayual,wato Nyial
Wa Mayual,wato Nyial
The meaning of song is “My father in heaven.” .This song is still used by agar today, particularly by the clan that is related to the Rual tree.
After the song was finished ,the people sat down and began to listen with great attention to their chiefs .Buoi spoke in a load voice, saying , my people ,I am very grateful to be standing ,before you today so that we can share our ideas about where to settle and how we will get land .
“Let me tell you this information, ”Buoi continued.” I have gone to Jur-col to investigate the possibility of getting you a piece of land. And this what I have been told by people there .they told me to pay a young girl in exchange for the land.”
Boui asked the crowd who among them was willing to give his daughter no one wanted to give his daughter to the Jur. Everyone was very quiet .no one responded because no one wanted to give their child to the Jur. as the gathering own fell silent ,Buoi made a very important decision : he would give his own daughter to the Jur in exchange for the land .
He announced decision and all his clansmen were very happy and clapped their hand in appreciation of Buoi’s words.
Then Buoi closed the meeting and in the evening he called for all his daughters, sons and wives to come to him. “Yes all know that I am the leader of Agar community and that I must do something to help our people get land.”
He paused for a moment before continuing “Akon my daughter. I am going to pay you as the price for the land.”Akon , who was a beautiful and humble girl, agreed immediately , without saying no.
And this why Agar own the land of Rumbek today and that is why the Jur people are being pushed step by step from their place.
This is why Agar call this area the Tiom Akon Buoi (Land of Akon Buoi).
Now here are some questions I want to ask yourself: if you are a leader, are you concerned whether or not your people are in danger? If you are a young person dreaming of being a leader, ask yourself if you want leadership for the sake of testing yourself or do you want to better the lives of others. If you are a young girl, ask yourself if you want to be like Akon or do you want to live like ladies who do not care about others.

How Yirol Got its Name
Yirol is a county in southern Sudan .Avery long time ago, when all of Yirol was covered by bush. a man called Nyang lived there with his family .they were living in very bad conditions .the biggest thread they face was thirst .there was no water in the village for the people to drink .water , as we know , is the most important provision for human beings.
The Nyang family Quenched their thirst at a spring .one day the spring went bad .one Anyang’s daughters was called Ayerul. If other members of the family fetched water from the spring it was filled with blood.
If Ayerul brought the water, it was clean and pure.
The meaning of this was that spring was in love with the girl .while others of continued to fetch blood, Ayerul always returned home with clean water.
One day a dream came to Nyang as he lay sleeping with his family.
The spring came to Nyang in his dream and told him, “Nyang, I love your daughter, and the only dowry I can pay you is water”.
In the morning Nyang called his daughter and explained to her what the spring had told him in this dream. The honest and obedient girl said, “If that is the case, we should not put the entire family at risk. Will do as the spring said in your dream “.
The father began to weep and then chose a bull .together they went to the spring and the father slaughtered the bull, all the while talking to the spring while his daughter stood by.
“Yes, yes “he said to the spring. “I am giving you my daughter with all y heart and I will expect you to give me clean and pure water”
He continued, “My daughter is very wise .my her wisdom flow with the water that will be drunk by brothers and sisters.”
Again he repeated to the spring “Give me all water I need .it is not me alone on this land to drink your water. “The family of this girl are very many. There are some in the Toch and some in the bush here .they all fear thirst.
They returned to their home to sleep and that night the girl disappeared. The next morning the spring had expanded. Its waters spilling over onto the ground until it had become a lake.
It was just as Ayerul’s father had ask, there was enough water for everyone .soon people settled along the shores of the lake.
The elders agreed that the body of water should be named Yerul, though it had earlier been known as Cinlucyith. And this is how Yirol got its name
